KO: Knock-Out Blackjack Counting System
The Knock-Out Blackjack card counting system, also known as the KO counting system, is a Level 1 counting method that is great for beginners. This popular method was brought into the limelight with the popular book by Ken Fuchs and Olaf Vancura entitled Knock-Out Blackjack-The Easiest Card Counting System Ever Devised.
KO Blackjack is similar to the other popular Level 1 counting system, the Hi-Lo Counting System. It assigns a value to each card in the deck and as the game progresses and cards are dealt the player must keep a running count in their head by adding these values together. In Knock-Out Blackjack counting, a value of -1 is assigned to all 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces. 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s and 7s are given a value of +1. 8s and 9s are given a value of 0.
Unlike the balanced system of Hi-Lo Card Counting where the value of a counted deck is 0, Knock-Out Blackjack is an unbalanced method. If you counted an entire deck using the KO system you would wind up with a value of 2. This means that once the count starts to exceed +2 it's time to start raising your bet, as the odds have switched over to your favor and the house edge is minimized.
Though the Knock-Out system of card counting is not quite as effective as more complicated Level 2 and 3 card counting systems like Wong Halves and Omega II, it is a great strategy for beginners. If you are new to blackjack card counting then learning the KO method can be a fantastic way to increase your blackjack winnings.
